27. ekaślokī-kṛṣṇalīlā*

एकश्लोकी-कृष्णलीला

आदौ देवकीदेवि-गर्भजननं
गोपिगृहे वर्धनं
मयापूतनजीवितापहरणं
गोवर्धनोद्धारणं ।
कंसच्छेदन-कौरवादिहननं
कुन्तीसुतापालनं
ह्येतद्भागवतं पुराणकथितं
श्रीकृष्णलीलामृतम् ॥

ekaślokī-kṛṣṇalīlā

ādau devakīdevi-garbhajananaṃ
gopigṛhe vardhanaṃ
mayāpūtanajīvitāpaharaṇaṃ
govardhanoddhāraṇaṃ ।
kaṃsacchedana-kauravādihananaṃ
kuntīsutāpālanaṃ
hyetadbhāgavataṃ purāṇakathitaṃ
śrīkṛṣṇalīlāmṛtam ॥

आदौ (ādau) = Long long ago
देवकीदेवि-गर्भ-जननं (devakīdevi-garbha-jananaṃ) = birth from the womb of mother Devakī
गोपिगृहे वर्धनं (gopigṛhe vardhanaṃ) = growing up in the house of a Gopī
मया-पूतन-जीवित-अपहरणं (mayā-pūtana-jīvita-apaharaṇaṃ) = taking away the life of a demoness Pūtana
गोवर्धन-उद्धारणं (govardhana-uddhāraṇaṃ) = lifting of Govardhana mountain
कंसच्छेदन (kaṃsacchedana) = killing of Kamsa
कौरवादि-हननं (kauravādi-hananaṃ) = death of Kauravas, etc.
कुन्तीसुत-अपालनं (kuntīsuta-apālanaṃ) = protection of sons of Kuntī
येतत् हि भागवतं (yetat hi bhāgavataṃ) = this indeed is Bhāgavata
पुराण-कथितं (purāṇa-kathitaṃ) = explained in the Purāṇa
श्रीकृष्ण-लील-अमृतम् (śrīkṛṣṇa-līla-amṛtam) = nectar of Sri Krishna’s magic

Meaning: Long long ago, born from the womb of mother Devakī; grown up in the house of a Gopī; took away the life of a demon Pūtana; lifted Govardhana mountain; killed Kamsa; caused death of Kauravas; protected of sons of Kuntī. This indeed is Bhāgavata, explained in the Purāṇa, the nectar of Sri Krishna’s magic.
