ईक्षणं द्विगुणम् (īkṣaṇaṃ dviguṇam) = Seeing should be double
भाषणस्य (bhāṣaṇasya) = than speaking.
इति (iti) = thus
वेधसा प्रोक्तं (vedhasā proktaṃ) = is said by the learned
मनुष्याणां (manuṣyāṇāṃ) = for humans
अक्षिणी द्वे (akṣiṇī dve) = eyes are two
जिह्वा तु एक एव निर्मिता (jihvā tu eka eva nirmitā) = but tongue created is one alone.
Meaning: The learned say that man is given one tongue and two eyes so that we put in more effort for seeing (observing) than we do for talking.
