काव्यशास्त्रविनोदेन
कालो गच्छति धीमताम् ।
व्यसनेन तु मूर्खाणां
निद्रया कलहेन वा ॥
kāvyaśāstravinodena
kālo gacchati dhīmatām ।
vyasanena tu mūrkhāṇāṃ
nidrayā kalahena vā ॥
धीमताम् कालः जच्छति (dhīmatām kālaḥ jacchati) = wise people’s time passes
काव्यशास्त्रविनोदेन (kāvya śāstra vinodena) = with / in poetry, scriptures & comedy
मूर्खाणां तु (mūrkhāṇāṃ tu) = but for / of fools (time passes)
व्यसनेन (vyasanena) = with / in bad habit
निद्रया (nidrayā) = with / in sleep
वा (vā) = OR कलहेन (kalahena) = with / in quarrel.
Hint: तृतीया विभक्ति (tṛtīyā vibhakti) (Instrumental Case)
Meaning: Wise people’s time passes with / in poetry, scriptures & comedy. but for / of fool’s time passes with / in bad habit; with / in sleep; with / in quarrel.
