चिन्तनीया हि विपदाम्
आदावेव प्रतिक्रिया ।
न कूपखननं युक्तं
प्रदीप्ते वह्निना गृहे ॥
cintanīyā hi vipadām
ādāveva pratikriyā ।
na kūpakhananaṃ yuktaṃ
pradīpte vahninā gṛhe ॥
विपदां प्रतिक्रिया (vipadāṃ pratikriyā) = solution for calamities
आदौ एव हि चिन्तनीया (ādau eva hi cintanīyā) = should be thought of before (the calamity occurs)
वह्निना प्रदीप्ते गृहे (vahninā pradīpte gṛhe) = when the house is lit by fire
कूपखननं न युक्तम् (kūpakhananaṃ na yuktam) = digging well is not apt.
Meaning: Solution to a problem should be thought of before the calamity. It is not right to start digging well when the house has caught fire.
