55. māṇikyavīṇāmupalālayantīṃ

श्यामला-दण्डकम् – कालिदास (śyāmalā-daṇḍakam – kālidāsa)

माणिक्यवीणामुपलालयन्तीं
मदालसां मञ्जुलवाग्विलासाम् ।
माहेन्द्रनीलद्युतकोमलाङ्गीम्
मातङ्गकन्यां मनसा स्मरामि ॥

māṇikyavīṇāmupalālayantīṃ
madālasāṃ mañjulavāgvilāsām

māhendranīladyutakomalāṅgīm
mātaṅgakanyāṃ manasā smarāmi

माणिक्यवीणाम् (māṇikyavīṇām) = Veena made up of gems
उपलालयन्तीम् (upalālayantīm) = one who is playing with great love
मदालसाम् (madālasām) = most graceful (मदेन अलसाम् – madena alasām)
मञ्जुल वाक् विलासाम् (mañjula vāk vilāsām) = who has sweet speech enriched with knowledge
माहेन्द्रनील-द्युतकोमलाङ्गीम् (māhendranīla-dyutakomalāṅgīm) = whose body is made up of blue gem (Saphire)
मातङ्गकन्याम् (mātaṅgakanyām) = daughter of मतङ्ग ऋषि (mataṅga ṛṣi)
मनसा स्मरामि (manasā smarāmi) = I invoke (remember) with my mind.

Meaning: I invoke (remember) in my mind, one who is playing the Veena made up of gems with great love; one who is most graceful; one who has sweet speech enriched with knowledge; whose body is made up of blue gem (Saphire); and who is daughter of mataṅga ṛṣi. (From śyāmalā-daṇḍakam of kālidāsa)
