विद्या ददाति विनयं
विनयाद् याति पात्रताम् ।
पात्रत्वाद् धनमाप्नोति
धनाद् धर्मः ततः सुखम् ॥
vidyā dadāti vinayaṃ
vinayād yāti pātratām ।
pātratvād dhanamāpnoti
dhanād dharmaḥ tataḥ sukham ॥
विद्या विनयं ददाति (vidyā vinayaṃ dadāti) = knowledge gives humility (from knowledge, comes humility)
विनयाद् पात्रताम् याति (vinayād pātratām yāti) = from humility, one gains eligibility
पात्रत्वाद् धनम् आप्नोति (pātratvād dhanam āpnoti) = from eligibility, one gains wealth
धनाद् धर्मः (dhanād dharmaḥ) = from wealth, one can do (perform one’s own) dharma
ततः सुखम् (tataḥ sukham) = joy thereafter / from it
Hint: पञ्चमी विभक्ति (pañcamī vibhakti) (Ablative Case)
Meaning: knowledge gives humility (from knowledge, comes humility); from humility, one gains eligibility; from eligibility, one gains wealth; from wealth, one can do (perform one’s own) dharma; joy thereafter / from it.
