उदये सविता रक्तः
रक्तश्चास्तमये तथा ।
सम्पत्तौ च विपत्तौ च
महतामेकरूपता ॥
udaye savitā raktaḥ
raktaścāstamaye tathā ।
sampattau ca vipattau ca
mahatāmekarūpatā ॥
उदये (udaye) = while rising
सविता (savitā) = the Sun
रक्तः (raktaḥ) = (is) red
च (ca) = and
तथा (tathā) = also
अस्तमये (astamaye) = while setting
रक्तः (raktaḥ) = (is) red
सम्पत्तौ च (sampattau ca) = and in prosperity
विपत्तौ च (vipattau ca) = and in calamity
महताम् (mahatām) = great people
एकरूपता (ekarūpatā) = remain same
Meaning: Just as while rising and while setting, the Sun is same red. In the same way, the great people are same ( in behaviour) in prosperity and in calamity.
