हृदये तु हलाहलम् ॥

durjanaḥ priyavādīti
naitaddiśvāsakāraṇam ।
madhu tiṣṭhati jihvāgre
hṛdaye tu halāhalam ॥

दुर्जनः (durjanaḥ) = a wicked person
प्रियवादी (priyavādī) = a sweet-talker
इति एतत् विश्वासकारणम् (iti etat viśvāsakāraṇam) = this cannot be the cause to keep faith or believe in him
जिह्वाग्रे मधु तिष्ठति (jihvāgre madhu tiṣṭhati) = honey stays at the tip of the tongue
हृदये तु हलाहलम् (hṛdaye tu halāhalam) = but poison in the heart.

Meaning: Do not believe a wicked person just because he is a sweet-talker. Honey stays in his words but poison in his heart.
